I am VERY excited to be able to offer you fabulous women, health and wellness into your 3rd Age!

 

I hold the UK’s ONLY qualification in nutrition and fitness for women who are perimenopausal or menopausal – and before you think “that’s not me, I’m too young!” let me explain about the peri-menopause.

This is the period of time before you reach the actual menopause.  Menopause itself is defined as the cessation of periods; in the UK doctors usually confirm that you are menopausal when you haven’t had a period for 12 months.

The average age that women in the UK reach menopause is 51, but it can happen several years before then.  Perimenopause, or menopause transition, begins several years before menopause. It’s the time when the ovaries gradually begin to make less oestrogen. It usually starts in a woman’s 40s, but can start in her 30s or even earlier.  So we can see that there is absolutely no fixed age for the start of the 3rd Age – it’s different for every woman.

The average length of perimenopause is four years, but for some women this stage may last only a few months or continue for 10 years.

What are the signs and symptoms of perimenopause?

Women in perimenopause have some or even all of these symptoms:

  • Hot flashes
  • Breast tenderness
  • Worse premenstrual syndrome
  • Lower sex drive
  • Fatigue
  • Irregular periods
  • Vaginal dryness; discomfort during sex
  • Urine leakage when coughing or sneezing
  • Urinary urgency (an urgent need to urinate more frequently)
  • Mood swings
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Being hyper-sensitive or over-emotional
  • Weight gain (especially around the middle)

Sounds all doom and gloom doesn’t it, and the jokes about old crones etc do nothing to dispel this image,

But I am here to tell you, IT DOESNT HAVE TO BE LIKE THIS

You can feel and look fabulous at this exciting stage of your life. you have more freedom financially and with your time (hopefully) so now is the time to get out there and ROCK IT.

 

These symptoms are caused by an imbalance in our hormones, some of which are oestrogen, progesterone and testosterone (yes, women’s  body’s produce testosterone!), but there are other hormones in the mix that need to be looked at too.

Many women go to their GP for help with these symptoms only to be told that it is a part of aging and should be accepted.  The conventional treatments are the birth control pill or anti-depressants, both of which will simply mask the symptoms and fail to address the root cause – and could make things much worse!

But I can help you, with both the nutrition, the exercise, the motivation, the mindset and the encouragement.
